About KDC

Environments in which children live and learn have a significant impact on their cognitive, emotional and social development. Kingston Day Care's Early Learning programs prepare your children to embrace challenges by providing stimulating environments.

Kingston Day Care was incorporated in 1967 and is a charitable, non-profit organization operated by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is accountable for the delivery of services, ensuring that services are responsive and reflective of community need.

Expansion of our child care settings has always been planned in a rational way to ensure a stable, viable system of services. Our financial statements reflect effective, efficient and accountable practices.

Today, we are proud to offer quality early learning programs at St. Martha Child Care Centre, Trillium Child Care Centre, Collins Bay Child Care Centre, and Our Lady of Lourdes Before and After School Programs.

Since 1967, Kingston Day Care has successfully faced the challenges of financial viability, addressing community needs and being progressive in the child care community. We are proud of our accomplishments and recognize the necessity to continue to plan and review our services to meet the ever-changing needs of our community.

Our achievements over the past 50 years have been realized through the visionary, dedicated efforts of our Board of Directors, Supervisors, Managers, and Early Childhood Educators. We have had the pleasure of creating many community partnerships over the years that enable us to provide quality programs for children and their families that are achievable, affordable, and accessible.

Our organization recognizes and respects differing needs of children when they play: indoors and outdoors, during both active and quiet play and when at rest. Our programs are designed to respect individual needs and differences: our daily routine is flexible responding to children’s ability to make choices and to self-regulate. We manage staffing so that smaller groups of children are able to play outdoors while others remain inside. We provide a comfortable and quiet rest time for those who require rest and also quiet play areas for those who do not. We adapt routines to correspond with the needs of the children. We are supportive of children’s strengths, needs and differences. We recognize that all children are unique and that they develop at different stages. We know that through ongoing engagement and observation of children that each child’s learning and development is supported. Observations are recorded through various forms of documentation and communicated to parents.

The Safety and Well-Being of Your Child is Our Highest Priority

The safety and well being of each child in our care is of the highest priority.

A strict screening process is followed for all people who will come into contact with your child. The screening process includes a Criminal Reference Check / Vulnerable Sector and Annual Offence Declaration. All employees have Standard First Aid & CPR-C training, including emergency procedures for Anaphylaxis and use of the Epipen. In accordance with the Ontario Regulation for Safe Drinking Water, daily flushing is carried out at each child care centre and annual lead tests are conducted. We comply with Kingston, Frontenac Lennox & Addington Health regulations at all times related to immunization, communicable illness, and proper administration for prescribed medication, food safety and each centre's environmental well-being.

All Kingston Day Care sites have locked entries with visual monitoring.

Transitioning from a home daycare, we were nervous that our son would be overwhelmed by the number of kids in the preschool classroom. Lisa and the team of educators worked hard to make him feel welcome and let him settle in at his own pace. They took note of his interests, incorporating new toys to spark his imagination and foster communal play. We were also impressed by how attentive they were, and accommodating when we were investigating an allergy.

The most positive aspect of the Collins Bay Child Care Centre was consistency of staff. Most parents recognize that their kids are at daycare for more hours than they are at home. For us, having the same handful of warm and caring educators meant that we could head to work confident that he was safe and happy.

I consider my son fortunate to go to Trillium Child Care Centre. The staff at Trillium clearly enjoy being around young children and are exceptional in their jobs. He is welcomed every morning by the staff with warmth, caring and open arms.

The teachers look at each child as an individual, caring for their needs and making them feel important. I am confident leaving my son in such a safe, fun and stimulating environment.

As I'm driving home from work, I always look forward to picking up my son from Trillium and hearing about the fun he has had during the day.

The care he receives there has meant a lot to not only him, but our family.

We started our son at St. Martha's in the infant room at 12 months old and he has loved it from the first day. The teachers are so good and kind to the children. St. Martha's allowed us to do trial periods before we started full time to get our son used to the play rooms and the other kids and teachers. I believe that helped tremendously. The kids are always doing crafts, activities, sensory learning, playing outside, practicing manners and sharing - all good things. The food and nutrition is excellent, lots of variety and a well-balanced combination. The teachers have been very accommodating to nap schedules and allergies or sensitivities. Our son has learned a lot and has advanced in his motor and walking skills, he always comes home happy and in good spirits. Thank you so much for taking care of our baby boy!
